Clinical Programs : Clinical Trends

The Department of Surgery, the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Hospitals are challenged by the increasing financial pressures from the rising malpractice costs and declining reimbursements. We are not alone in facing these challenges: these are national trends. We are fortunate to enjoy close working relations with the University of Chicago Hospitals, which continues to support the growth of surgical programs.

We have supported a number of new offsite clinical programs

  • Pediatric surgical specialties are extending their referral practices into the outer suburban areas.
  • Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons are advising other medical centers as they develop programs in the wider metropolitan area
  • We are expanding our referral base
  • Provides expertise in the greater metropolitan area
