Welcome to the University of Chicago and the Section of Vascular Surgery. We are proud of our department's long history of outstanding achievement in patient care, education and research in the broad spectrum of vascular disease. With our current faculty of five full time vascular surgeons, we provide clinical service at the University of Chicago's Hyde Park Campus, our affiliate Weiss Memorial Hospital on the North Side as well as several other in-patient and outpatient venues in Illinois and Michigan.

Our clinical faculty are involved in the non-invasive evaluation and medical management of patients with a wide variety of vascular problems including arterial occlusive disease, arterial aneurysms and venous disorders.

Our basic science laboratories have long been recognized for their pioneering work in the causes of atherosclerosis, the physiology of blood flow in vein grafts and the effect of ischemia and reperfusion on various organs. Current research efforts are funded by two multi-million dollar National Institutes of Health grants and a number of American Heart Career Development Awards and Grant-in-Aids.

The graduates of our vascular surgery training program (established in 1978 as one of the first in the country) are distributed throughout the world and currently head no less than six departments of vascular surgery in the United States.

The most recent clinical expansion in our group is focused on the exciting area of endovascular treatment of obstructive arterial lesions and aortic aneurysms.
