It is with great pleasure that I share with you the 2008 annual report of The University of Chicago Department of Surgery. The theme of the report, “Transformation,” highlights our advancements in shaping patient care, training the next generation of surgical leaders and pioneering new avenues of research.

This report provides a glimpse into the evolving world of the Department. In this past academic year, we have built strong momentum in the development of innovative programs, multidisciplinary initiatives and significant achievements on many fronts.
