Interview Process

Interview Dates

Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017
Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017

We will offer eligible candidates two interview dates to choose from and we will contact you following a review of your application.

Friday Evening Welcome Reception
On the evening prior to candidate interviews, the general surgery residents host a welcome reception from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox. The welcome reception is a relaxing evening with plenty of buffet style food and a chance to mingle with the surgery residents. Attire for the evening is causal. Some will even wear blue jeans. The faculty are not present at this gathering, making this a great opportunity for one-on-one engagement with current residents. Your spouse/significant other is welcome to join you.

U.S. Cellular Field
333 West 35 Street
Chicago, IL 60616

Reception Parking: Guests should park and enter the Gold Coast Tickets Club at Gate 4. If you require taxi service after the event, we suggest Carriage Cab Corporation. We will have their contact information available for you at the reception.

Saturday Interviews
Early Saturday morning candidates arrive for breakfast with the residents. Breakfast is followed by a brief welcome by our chairman, Dr. Jeffrey Matthews, and an overview of our program which is presented by our Program Director, Dr. Kevin Roggin. Interviews begin at the conclusion of the speaker session. The interview process includes five interviews that conclude by noon. The interviews are as follows:

  • Short "meet and greet" with Senior Leadership - 10 minutes
  • Senior Faculty – 20 minute interview
  • Junior Faculty – 20 minute interview
  • Panel Interview with two faculty – 20 minute interview
  • Short "meet and greet" with the Program Director – 5 minutes

When you do not have a scheduled interview you will have the opportunity to mingle with our general surgery residents.

The afternoon is comprised of a luncheon with the faculty and residents, and a tour of our facilities. The interview day concludes with an informal reception with the faculty and residents. Candidates are highly encouraged to attend the reception. This is an excellent opportunity to meet our faculty, and is important in the evaluation process.
