Education & Training

The clinical education program in orthopaedic surgery is centered at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital. We have full-time clinical and basic science faculty dedicated to the care of patients; education of students, residents and fellows; and the creation of new knowledge in the clinical and basic science of musculoskeletal diseases. The clinical portion of our program is carried out primarily by 18 full-time orthopaedic surgeons. It focuses on inpatient units, onsite and offsite outpatient clinics, and the operating room.

The clinical care of orthopaedic surgery is divided into sections that include joint reconstruction, hand and upper extremity, spine, oncology, pediatrics, foot and ankle, trauma and sports medicine. The faculty members are responsible as the primary physicians for patients, but work with the residents to determine pre- and postoperative evaluations of patients.
