Laros Lectureship
Gerald S. Laros, M.D., died suddenly on September 20, 1992 in Durham, North Carolina at the age of 62. His premature death was a tremendous loss to the field of orthopaedic surgery and deeply saddened those of us who had the privilege of working with him and knowing him as a friend.
Dr. Laros made valuable contributions to the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Chicago during his years as Professor and Chief of the Section. All of us who were acquainted with him knew how much he loved teaching and how concerned he was for his students, residents and faculty. We felt the best tribute to him would be one that commemorated his commitment to education. We established the Laros Library to continue and honor his commitment to education and to advance the educational mission of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine.
Two years following his death we established the annual Gerald S. Laros Memorial Visiting Professor. We have a distinguished list of past participants.
