Hand Surgery

Hand surgery encompasses numerous conditions that result in hand impairments often from birth defects, trauma, tumor or blood vessel disease. The hand service at the University of Chicago focuses specifically on the diagnosis and treatment of hand disorders of all kinds. Our hand surgeons are plastic and orthopaedic faculty who have received specialized training in hand surgery. These surgeons hold Certificates of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery and are certified by the American Boards of Plastic Surgery or Orthopaedic Surgery.

Our Hand Service has specially trained hand therapists to assist in rehabilitation therapy, splint fabrication and functional evaluation of hand surgery patients. Some of the unique surgical services provided at the University of Chicago hand service include: microsurgical toe-to-hand transfer, joint replacement surgery, digital sympathectomy, endoscopic wrist surgery, microsurgical nerve reconstruction and surgery of congenital hand deformities.
