Microsurgery Fellowship
The Section of Plastic Surgery offers a one-year fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery. The section has four active microsurgeons who perform 100-125 micro cases per year. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with each of the faculty during microsurgical cases involving breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction following tumor ablation, extremity reconstruction for tumor and trauma as well as peripheral nerve reconstruction. The fellow will principally operate at the University of Chicago Medical Center, but will also have the opportunity to participate in cases at Weiss, St. Joseph's and Mercy Hospitals.
This training opportunity will provide experience with a broad spectrum of clinical cases, emphasizing the planning and execution of microsurgical solutions for problems in reconstructive surgery. In addition, the operative experience can be tailored to meet specific needs/interests of the fellow. The fellow will also work with the section’s plastic surgery residents, and will play an important role in their didactic and operative education. Opportunities are also available for clinical and basic research.
Preference will be given to candidates who have completed training in plastic surgery, but candidates who have completed training in general surgery or ENT will also be considered. For more information please contact Akilah Williams at awilliam@surgery.bsd.uchicago.edu.
