Education & Training

The Section of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy offers a wide variety of educational experiences for medical students, residents and fellows. Our clinical education program is centered at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital. Our clinical education program includes a variety of experiences for medical students, residents and vascular surgery fellows.

The clinical portion of the program centers on surgical experience in the operating rooms as well as all aspects of inpatient and outpatient care. Our vascular surgery fellows work closely with our faculty in determining pre- and post operative treatment plans. Our students, residents and fellows are exposed to the full range of vascular surgery procedures during the course of their training, including both minimally invasive (endovascular) procedures and traditional open surgical techniques. Our fellows also train with our ICAVAL accredited non-invasive vascular laboratory team in the performance and interpretation of non-invasive studies.

Our educational program is greatly enhanced by our weekly clinical vascular conference. Vascular Surgery Conference is a cross-departmental, multidisciplinary, educational roundtable used for the discussion and planning of upcoming complicated cases and follow-up of past cases. The conference is regularly attended by the vascular surgery faculty, fellows, residents, students, nurses and non-invasive vascular laboratory team as well as our distinguished colleagues from Cardiology, Neurology and Interventional Radiology.
