Pritzker School of Medicine Receives Prestigious AΩA Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion

The Pritzker School of Medicine has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Honor Medical Society Award for Excellence in Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Medical Education and Patient Care. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment and collaborative efforts of the entire Pritzker community towards creating an environment that fosters diversity, inclusivity, and equity.

The award acknowledges medical schools that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and engagement in cultivating an inclusive culture, transforming the ideals of diversity and equity into successful programs that support medical students, house staff, and faculty diversity in service to the community. Vineet Arora, MD, Dean for Medical Education at Pritzker, expressed gratitude, stating, "We are incredibly honored to receive this award from AΩA and recognize it was only possible through the efforts of so many people at Pritzker."

Pritzker consistently ranks among the nation’s most diverse and selective medical schools, with over 50% of incoming students receiving full tuition scholarships in 2023. The school's commitment to recruiting a diverse class is evident, with students from underrepresented backgrounds making up an average of 34 percent of Pritzker’s incoming classes since 2019. In addition to formal coursework in health equity, advocacy, and anti-racism, Pritzker students actively engage in student-oriented service projects, including running six free clinics across the city. The Identity & Inclusion (i2i) Steering Committee, founded in 2015, plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive learning environment from matriculation through graduation. This award not only recognizes past achievements but also provides a cash prize to further support Pritzker's ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives. Congratulations to Pritzker School of Medicine on this well-deserved recognition!
