On Wednesday, May 21st, the Department of Surgery proudly hosted the 56th Annual Dallas B. Phemister Memorial Lecture, featuring Dr. John H. Stewart IV as this year’s distinguished speaker.
In his powerful talk, titled “Achieving Health Equity in Surgical Oncology in the Pursuit of Health Justice,” Dr. Stewart explored the systemic barriers to equitable cancer care and offered thoughtful insights on how surgeons can lead transformative change in pursuit of justice and better outcomes for all patients.
The lecture was well received and sparked meaningful conversations among faculty, residents, and students. We thank Dr. Stewart for his impactful message and for advancing dialogue around equity and advocacy in surgical practice.
