In September, members of the University of Chicago Department of Surgery attended the Thirty-Fourth Annual Meeting of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS), hosted by the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The conference brought together academic surgeons from across the country to promote health justice, mentorship, and leadership development among Black and underrepresented minority surgeons.
The meeting served as an important platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas, and strengthening professional networks that support equity and advancement in academic surgery. Our department’s active participation underscores a continued commitment to fostering inclusion, supporting underrepresented faculty and trainees, and advancing the mission of SBAS through collaboration and excellence.
