Inaugural Event Highlights: Socially Responsible Surgery in Conflict Zones

On December 5th, Pritzker Socially Responsible Surgery hosted its inaugural event, featuring Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, a trauma surgeon with extensive experience in conflict zones such as Haiti, Ukraine, and Gaza, Palestine. Dr. Sidhwa shared insights from his recent work at the European Hospital in Gaza, as well as reflections on his New York Times and Politico articles detailing these experiences.

The discussion, moderated by Dr. Baddr Shakhsheer explored the critical role of surgeons in addressing structural and individual violence. Attendees engaged in a thoughtful dialogue, both in-person and virtually, about the challenges and responsibilities of surgical practice in conflict settings.

The event was well-attended and sparked meaningful discussions, reinforcing the importance of socially responsible surgery in global contexts.

Thank you Dr. Diane Haddad for coordinating this event and leading our Chapter of SRS.
